Unleash the Hospice hero inside YOU! Volunteer.

The Absolute Hospice Foundation has flexible and meaningful volunteers opportunities available – no special skills are needed – just a caring heart and the desire to help.

Hospice volunteers are a crucial part of the hospice experience and are valued by patients and families for the personal touch they bring to an emotional experience. Here are just a few of the ways you can make a difference to a hospice patient and their family members, as they experience the final season of their life:

  • Provide companionship and support through friendly visits to patients in their homes or nursing homes. You can play a game, read together, talk about shared interests, or simply provide a comforting presence. Some volunteers assist with household chores, or stay with the patient to give the caregiver a much-needed break.

  • Share your musical or other artistic talents, by singing a calming song or playing an instrument; working on an art project together or assisting a patient and their loved ones to create a scrap book or memory quilt; engage a patient in reminiscing and help them write down their life experiences for their family members.

  • Bring your certified dog along on a pet visit to brighten someone’s day.

  • Provide veteran-to-veteran support to patients and family members who are veterans, through pinning ceremonies and supportive visits.

  • Make phone calls to family members after their loved one has died, to provide bereavement support, under the supervision of our Bereavement Coordinator.

  • For those who prefer less-direct patient care, you can make and donate lap blankets or other crafts, or provide administrative and marketing assistance in the hospice offices.
