Introducing Absolute Hospice’s New Massage Therapy Program: And the Massage Therapist Behind it, John Mramor.
Absolute is thrilled to welcome massage therapy, and Massage Therapist, John Mramor to our hospice program. “It’s incredibly important for hospice to treat the whole person. Massage therapy and touch is a foundational part in helping us fulfill our mission and our promise,” said Pat Galioto, hospice director.
Studies show that human touch builds a stronger immune system, trust between individuals, and overall wellbeing. According to a white paper published by the Kansas Health Care Association, human touch may decrease anxiety, violence, and disease. Several other studies show that small children who are otherwise physically healthy can develop immune disorders and even die from lack of human touch.
Human touch at the end of life is also essential, it’s an experience that benefits the patient by bringing them joy, peace, and comfort.
After an order from the physician, John walks through this process with new referrals:
Evaluation
A non-touch visit is conducted (John notes that a non-touch visit is crucial for building trust, and learning more about the patient’s preferences.)
The form of massage is established
Massage therapy sessions begin
Outcomes are measured
John comes to us with 20 years of service under his belt. He’s built a rewarding career that he is still as passionate about as he was on the day he began. His passion for hospice was fueled by his father, who passed away when John was a young man.
John graduated from the Ohio College of Massotherapy, cum laude from Baldwin Wallace University, and from Kent State University with a master’s degree.
